Blended Scotch Whisky 22 Years Old MBl The Maltman (Meadowside Blending) is a blended Scotch from Meadowside Blending. It folds malt and grain together, Caol Ila giving the Islay smoke. The malt is medium peated, giving a cleaner smoke than the south shore Islays.

The Caol Ila within lends a clean, lemony Islay smoke rather than a heavy tarry one. Years in ex-Bourbon wood lent a soft vanilla and a coastal calm. The lighter style means the cask and the citrus speak alongside the peat. The tall stills and a high cut give a lighter, cleaner spirit than the southern Islays. The oily texture comes from the spirit cut, the cask adding depth around it. The medium peating leaves a smoke that is firm but never heavy. A gentle vanillin sweetness from the oak balances the coastal phenols. Malt comes from the Port Ellen maltings on the south of the island.

Bottled at 45.9%, it is rounded. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. Lemon, olive oil and a soft ash run through the middle. A smoky, oily warmth lingers with lemon and salt. A characterful smoky blended Scotch.
