Description
Blended Scotch Whisky 1977 PST TB/BSW (Phil & Simon Thompson) is a blended Scotch from Phil & Simon Thompson. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Highland malt such as Clynelish for a waxy depth. It is the heart malt of Johnnie Walker Gold Label, and a sought after single malt in its own right.
Clynelish's famous wax is the kind of malt that lifts a blend. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the oily spirit. The clean, oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey over the wax. The unpeated make leans on texture and citrus, the cask adding depth. The cool, salt laden coastal air works into the maturing casks at Brora. The distillery was built in 1967 next to the original Clynelish of 1819, which was renamed Brora and later closed. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath.
At 40.3% it is oily, citrussy and clean. A waxy, oily texture runs through it, with citrus, honey and a coastal lift. Orange, beeswax and a maritime salt fill the middle. The finish is deep, waxy and maritime. A characterful blended Scotch.
