Blended Scotch Whisky 1976 MBl The Maltman (Meadowside Blending) is a blended Scotch from Meadowside Blending. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Highland malt such as Clynelish for a waxy depth. Clynelish sits on the North Sea coast at Brora, in the far north east of the Highlands.

Clynelish's famous wax is the kind of malt that lifts a blend. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut over the wax. The oily, waxy texture is the signature that blenders prize above all. It is the heart malt of Johnnie Walker Gold Label, and a sought after single malt in its own right. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath. Water comes from the Clynemilton Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills. Active wood frames the citrus without smothering the waxy texture. The famous wax is said to come from the build up in the distillery's feints receivers.

Bottled at 46.2%, it is rounded. A waxy, oily texture runs through it, with citrus, honey and a coastal lift. A lemon, a brine and a thick wax lift it. Citrus, wax and a faint brine see out the finish. A characterful blended Scotch.
