Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 1992 MBl The Maltman (Meadowside Blending) is a blended malt Scotch from Meadowside Blending. It vats single malts from several distilleries, with Caol Ila for Islay smoke. Long fermentations build the fruity, citrus notes that sit beneath the smoke.

Islay malts bring the smoke, the lighter Caol Ila style keeping it clean rather than heavy. A first fill sherry cask drove a deep, figgy, nutty character. Years in oak round the smoke, the peat mellowing while the brine stays. The oily texture comes from the spirit cut, the cask adding depth around it. Active wood frames the smoke without smothering the citrus beneath. Tall stills and a clean cut give the spirit its oily, lemony lightness. The lighter style means the cask and the citrus speak alongside the peat. The make balances phenolic smoke against a bright, oily citrus.

At an easy 42% it is gentle. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. A maritime salt and a lemon lift run through it. A long, briny finish ends on lemon and soft smoke. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
