Description
Binifadet Blanc is a Chardonnay from Bodegas Binifadet at Sant Lluís, bottled under the Illa de Menorca regional designation in the Balearic Islands. The estate dates its modern vineyard to 1979, when Carlos Anglés planted several varieties and kept those best suited to the island, and it was among the first to revive commercial winemaking on Menorca. The maritime climate is warm and constant, tempered by sea breezes that carry a saline character into the fruit and help retain acidity in a warm setting. Chardonnay ripens fully here, giving riper stone and orchard fruit than in cooler regions. The wine is made young and unoaked, with the emphasis on primary fruit and freshness rather than barrel influence, so the character of grape and place comes through cleanly. It pours pale gold, with a nose of melon, white peach and pear over lemon and green apple. The palate is medium bodied and dry, rounded but fresh, closing with a gently saline finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
Serve with grilled white fish and Mediterranean seafood, where its saline freshness fits the setting. It has the weight to take tuna and other meaty fish, and works with roast chicken and vegetable rice.
