Description
Bielle on Marie-Galante made this 14 year aged Rhum Vieux from the 2003 vintage, an agricole from fresh sugarcane juice under Guadeloupe's IGP. Bottled at cask strength, 52.8 percent, it is a deep, mature take on the island's cane-juice style.
Column distilled and matured in ex-bourbon wood, the long ageing shows clearly: humid oak, tobacco and vanilla on the nose give way to roasted coffee, caramel and dried stone fruit on the palate, all anchored by the grassy cane core underneath. The finish runs woody and roasted with licorice and raisin. The strength carries real weight, so it shines neat or with a few drops of water to coax out the fruit. A rounded, wood-driven aged agricole for drinkers who like maturity and depth.
