A five year old vieux agricole from Bielle on Marie-Galante, distilled from fresh cane juice and matured in ex-bourbon casks, an unsweetened island rum bottled at a sippable 45%.
Description
Bielle is a Marie-Galante distillery known for cane-variety experiments and high-proof blancs, working from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice. This Vieux Chambord is a 2019 vintage aged five years in ex-bourbon casks, falling under Guadeloupe's IGP rather than the Martinique AOC but cut from the same cane-juice cloth.
Bottled at 45% with no sweetening, it sits in the dry, aged agricole tradition. Tropical maturation on this island works fast, so a five year old typically shows more oak than its age suggests, with a grassy core joined by vanilla, light baking spice and toasted wood from the bourbon barrels. Expect a dry, characterful Marie-Galante pour.
