A 16 year old single cask agricole from Bielle on Marie-Galante, rich and rounded with confit fruit, coffee, cocoa and sweet spice, fresh-juice distilled and bottled at full cask strength yet easy at 48%.
Description
Bielle's Le Vieil Oublie draws on a 2001 vintage from Marie-Galante, bottled as a single cask at full strength yet landing at a very approachable 48%. Pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses, it shows how tropical ageing can carry an agricole to genuine maturity, the island heat driving faster oak extraction than a cooler climate would.
Column-distilled and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it opens woody with coffee, tropical fruit and citrus, then turns complex across the palate with vanilla and sweet spice and a touch of gentle rubber. The finish runs long and woody with red and passion fruit. Sixteen years of age give it richness and roundness while the moderate strength keeps it easy, a single cask that hits a sweet spot of fruit, wood and drinkability for anyone who enjoys older agricoles or classic Demeraras.
