Description
Bicicletas y Peces is a white wine from D.O. Rueda in Castilla y León, produced by Family Owned Wineries, a venture set up in 2013 by two families with a long history in Spanish wine. Rueda sits on a high plateau where poor, stony and sandy soils drain freely and force the vines to work, while a strong day to night temperature range at altitude keeps acidity fresh even in a warm continental climate. That combination is what gives Rueda Verdejo its aromatic lift and green freshness. This bottling is made in a straightforward, protective style with no oak, so the fruit stays clean and primary. Fermentation at cool temperatures in stainless steel preserves the delicate aromatics and locks in the grape's fennel and citrus character. The wine is pale lemon in the glass. The nose opens with white flowers, white peach and grapefruit, and the palate is dry, light bodied and brisk, finishing on a lemon and herbal note that is typical of the variety. Serve it chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with light dishes.
