Description
Bestue Finca Rableros comes from D.O. Somontano, made by Bodega Otto Bestue from a single estate, Finca Rableros, at the foot of the Pyrenees. The climate here is marked by very cold winters and hot summers, with low annual rainfall near 500mm. That wide seasonal and day to night swing slows ripening and locks in acidity, giving the wine freshness alongside ripe fruit. The vines grow on brown limestone soils, which drain well and add a firm, mineral spine. The wine is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, pairing the cassis and structure of the first with the red fruit and suppleness of the second. Ageing runs seven months in French and American oak, a measured spell that adds a toasted, vanilla frame and softens the tannin through slow oxygen exchange without burying the fruit. The colour is deep purple red. The nose shows ripe plum, blueberry and raspberry over toast and subtle vanilla. The palate is medium to full bodied, with ripe tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury, lightly spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees in a Bordeaux glass. It pairs well with grilled lamb and roast pork.
