Rubber, tobacco and varnish over a deep, complex base, then tar and barrel with caramel, dark chocolate and tropical fruit, a benchmark 22 Year Old single cask Caroni bottled unsweetened at cask strength 60.3%.
Description
A single cask Caroni from the 1997 vintage at 22 years, bottled by the venerable London house Berry Bros and Rudd. Caroni closed in 2003, and well aged cask strength bottlings like this have become reference points for the heavy, industrial Trinidad style that collectors chase.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 60.3%, it delivers the full classic profile. Tar and rubber announce themselves from the moment the bottle opens, joined by tobacco, varnish and black tea, with caramel, dark chocolate and a thread of tropical fruit giving depth, and a long woody finish. It carries serious intensity and length, a benchmark expression of the dirty Caroni character that rewards slow, attentive drinking. A single cask for the seasoned palate.
