Description
Beronia Verdejo is a Rueda white from Bodegas Beronia, a winery founded in 1973 and best known for its Rioja reds since joining González Byass in 1982. For its Rueda it works with Verdejo grown on the appellation's high plateau, where poor sandy and stony soils sit over limestone under a continental climate. Cold nights and warm days give a wide diurnal range that preserves acidity and the grape's aromatic drive, letting the wine stay fresh in a hot dry summer. The Verdejo is fermented at controlled low temperature in stainless steel, with no oak, to keep the fruit clean and the finish crisp. The wine is pale with green tints. The nose is bright and herbal, showing green apple and fennel with a touch of citrus peel, and the palate is dry, crisp and lightly grassy in the way old Rueda Verdejo tends to be, with a gently bitter close. Serve it well chilled, around 8 to 10 degrees.
