Description
Bodegas Beronia was established in 1973 by a group of friends from a gastronomic society in Rioja, and is now part of the González Byass family of wineries. The name comes from the Berones, the Celtic settlers who gave the region its early identity, and the house aims for a traditional style. This rosado is a varietal Tempranillo, Rioja's principal grape, made with a short period of skin contact to draw the colour and fruit. It spends some time in wood, which is unusual for a rosé and adds texture and a gentle savoury complexity rather than overt oak. The limestone-clay soils and altitude of Rioja supply the natural acidity that keeps the wine fresh. The colour is bright pink. The nose shows ripe strawberry, red cherry and a little plum, with a faint savoury note from the time in wood. The palate is dry and fruit driven, with a rounder texture than a steel-only rosé, fresh acidity and a clean, citrus-edged finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
