Beronia makes this Rueda white from Verdejo, the local grape of Castilla y León. Eight months on its lees add texture to a fresh core of lemon, green apple and white peach, with a savoury herbal edge and a saline finish.

Description
Beronia is the González Byass winery in Rioja, and Las Lías is its Verdejo grown in D.O. Rueda in Castilla y León. Rueda sits on a high plateau of stony, gravel-topped soils that drain freely and force the vine to root deep, while wide day-to-night temperature swings during ripening preserve the grape's natural acidity and aromatic freshness. Verdejo is the region's signature variety, prized for its citrus drive and a faint bitter-almond note on the close. This wine spends eight months on its lees, the spent yeast cells left after fermentation. As those cells break down they release mannoproteins and amino acids that broaden the mid-palate and lend a subtle creaminess without any oak. The colour is pale straw with green flashes. The nose leads with lemon, green apple and white peach, backed by dried herbs and fennel. The palate is dry and textured, the lees weight balanced by crisp acidity and a saline, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
