Description
Bénédicte and Stéphane Tissot farm biodynamically across the Arbois appellation in the Jura, the cool, hilly region between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Poulsard is the area's signature pale red grape, thin skinned and naturally low in colour and tannin, planted here on the grey marl and limestone soils that give Jura reds their savoury minerality. The 2022 is fermented and aged in a 600 litre used oak demi-muid, a large format that limits oak flavour and oxygen pickup, so the wine keeps its delicacy and bright fruit rather than taking on wood character. The colour is light, almost rosé in depth. The nose shows redcurrant, wild strawberry and cherry with dried herbs and a touch of earth. The palate is light bodied and fresh, with fine, barely-there tannin and a tangy red-fruit finish. Serve it cool, around 14C, in a Burgundy glass, and treat it like a wine that sits between red and white. It works with roast chicken, charcuterie and grilled mushrooms.
