Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosso is a young natural red from Cascina degli Ulivi in Piedmont, blending Barbera and Dolcetto. Unoaked and made with minimal intervention, it is fresh and juicy, with red cherry, raspberry and a bright, tangy lift.
Description
Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosso comes from Cascina degli Ulivi, the Piedmont farm where Stefano Bellotti pioneered natural and biodynamic winemaking from the late 1970s, and which his daughter Ilaria now runs. It blends Barbera, with its naturally high acidity, and the softer, rounder Dolcetto, both grown biodynamically on the hills of the Gavi area in southern Piedmont, where calcareous marl soils and a temperate continental climate favour fresh, perfumed reds. This is an everyday wine made with minimal intervention, vegan, fermented and bottled young without oak ageing, so nothing stands between the drinker and the bright, primary fruit. The colour is vivid, youthful ruby. The nose is fresh and direct, with red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant over plum, dried herbs and a touch of pepper and earth. The palate is light to medium bodied and juicy, the Barbera acidity keeping it lively and the tannins soft, finishing clean and tangy. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you like. It is an easy table red for lighter meats, tomato dishes and pizza.
