Description
Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Bianco comes from Cascina degli Ulivi, a family farm in the Gavi zone of Piedmont with 22 hectares of vines alongside arable land, orchards and animals. The estate has been farmed biodynamically since 1984 and makes natural wines aimed at a clear, pure expression of the grape and its plots. The blend pairs Chardonnay with Cortese, the native white grape of Gavi, which brings brisk acidity and a lightly almondy character; Chardonnay adds a little roundness and orchard fruit. This is a young wine made in the simplest way, with native yeast fermentation and no oak, so the emphasis falls on freshness and the character of the fruit rather than any cellar signature. The low 12% alcohol and minimal intervention keep it light and unforced. The colour is pale straw, sometimes faintly hazy in the natural style. The nose is fresh and direct, showing green apple, lemon and pear with a touch of white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, with citrus and a subtle almond note over a leesy, savoury edge and clean acidity on the finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
