Description
Beaux Freres is a Willamette Valley estate in Oregon, and The Upper Terrace comes from Pinot Noir grown on Ribbon Ridge, one of the valley's smallest and most distinctive appellations. Ribbon Ridge is defined by its uplifted marine sedimentary soils, fine-grained and free-draining, which restrict vigour and give Pinot Noir a savoury, mineral character. The cool Willamette climate and long, gentle growing season let the fruit ripen slowly, keeping the acidity and perfume that mark fine Pinot Noir. The wine is aged in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the light tannins and adds a subtle spice without covering the fruit. The colour is medium ruby. The nose is red and black fruit, cherry and plum, over spice and a smoky, mineral note. The palate is concentrated yet delicate, with fine tannin, fresh acidity and a balanced, expansive finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, decanted briefly. It is a natural partner for duck, game birds and mushroom dishes.
