Baudili Orange is Ramon Jané’s fresher, more approachable orange wine from the Penedès, blending Macabeo, Parellada, Moscatel and Xarel·lo Rojo. Made on the skins, it shows bright apricot and peach over a floral, herbal base with a clean grip.
Description
Ramon Jané and Mercè Cuscó founded their winery in 2006 at Les Gunyoles d'Avinyonet in the Penedès, Catalonia, and the Baudili range is their accessible take on natural wine. This orange wine blends the local white grapes Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel·lo Rojo with Moscatel, grown on the limestone clay soils of inland Penedès under a warm Mediterranean climate cooled by sea breezes. The grapes are fermented with skin contact, which extracts phenolics, light tannin and amber colour from the skins and gives the wine its texture and savoury edge while keeping the aromatic lift of the Moscatel. The aim here is freshness and drinkability rather than heavy oxidative ageing, so the style stays bright and fruit driven. Organic and made with minimal intervention. The colour is a brilliant amber. The nose leads with fresh apricot and peach lifted by white flowers and a herbal background, and the palate is dry, juicy and lightly grippy with a clean, citrus edged finish. Serve well chilled at 10 to 12 degrees. Good with grilled fish, seafood rice and summer salads.
