Description
Baroni Di Pianogrillo sits on a hill in southern Sicily among cypress trees and olive groves, on a site with deep history and old oil mills still standing. This white is made from Grillo, a native Sicilian grape, and the fruit is farmed organically. It is vinified without oak, in a fresh, direct style that keeps the focus on primary fruit and acidity rather than texture from wood. The warm Sicilian climate ripens the grapes fully, while the island's elevation and coastal air preserve enough freshness to balance the sun, giving a wine of moderate twelve percent alcohol. It shows a pale yellow colour with a bright sheen. The nose is youthful and open, led by lemon, green apple and white peach, with white floral notes lifting behind. The palate is clean and easy, its citrus and orchard fruit carried by fresh acidity and a light saline finish that speaks of the Mediterranean setting. This is an uncomplicated, refreshing white made to drink young. Serve well chilled at around 9 to 10 degrees.
