Barón de Ley makes this vegan Rioja rosado from Garnacha and Tempranillo grown on the Los Almendros estate in Rioja Baja. The pale free-run lágrima juice gives a fresh, dry wine of strawberry, red currant and citrus.
Description
Barón de Ley is based in Mendavia, Navarra, and farms over 400 hectares across the Rioja Designation of Origin, matching grape varieties to the different microclimates from Alavesa to Rioja Baja. This rosado comes from the Los Almendros estate in the warm Rioja Baja, blending Garnacha and Tempranillo. The name lágrima refers to the free-run juice that drains from the grapes under their own weight before pressing, the lightest and cleanest fraction, which gives a pale colour and a delicate profile. The estate sits on alluvial and clay-limestone soils, with a warm climate tempered by the Ebro valley. The wine is fermented cool in stainless steel to keep the fruit fresh and primary, with no oak and no extended ageing, and it is suitable for vegans. The colour is pale pink. The nose shows strawberry and red berries with red currant, citrus peel and white flowers. The palate is dry and fresh, with green apple acidity and a clean, easy finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is a versatile aperitif and table wine for fish, poultry and salads.
