A Port-cask single cask from Madeira, this agricole-style cane-juice rum brings red fruits, caramel, roasted coffee and cacao over gentle wood at 53.4%, original and easy to sip neat or with chocolate.
Description
Barikenn Engenho Novo 2016 is a single cask cane-juice rum from the Engenho Novo distillery on Madeira, selected by the French bottler Barikenn. Madeira is one of the few places permitted to use the term agricole outside the French islands, working from fresh-pressed cane juice, and this six year old is bottled at 53.4%.
Matured in a Port cask, the wine influence is clearly present, bringing red fruits, caramel, roasted coffee and cacao alongside gentle oak and a roasted, nutty finish. The Port leads while the cane base stays in support, giving a thoughtful, original profile that steps beyond a classic French-island blanc. It sips easily neat and pairs naturally with cheese or chocolate, where the red-fruit and roast notes find their match.
