Bardos is Vintae’s Rueda Verdejo, grown on gravelly southern Valladolid soils rich in calcium and magnesium. Four months on its lees add texture to intense pineapple and passion fruit, with a herbal boxwood note and fresh acidity.
Description
Bardos is the Rueda project of Vintae, the group founded by José Miguel Arambarri Terrero in 1999 that already makes wine across eleven other Spanish appellations. The vineyards lie in the south of Valladolid province on gravelly soils that are poor in organic matter yet rich in calcium and magnesium. Those free draining, low vigour soils restrict yields and concentrate the fruit, while the continental climate and its wide day to night temperature range keep acidity firm. This is a varietal Verdejo. After fermentation it spends four months on its fine lees, and the regular contact with the spent yeast releases mannoproteins that broaden the mid palate and add a subtle savoury depth without masking the fruit. It is pale straw with green tints. The nose is intense, with pineapple and passion fruit interwoven with the herbal boxwood note typical of the grape and other green, vegetal hints. The palate is fresh and textured, with green apple, citrus and a light saline grip. The finish is dry and herbal. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits shellfish, white fish and vegetable dishes. This bottling is vegan.
