Barco del Corneta Loseco is Beatriz Herranz’s Verdejo and Viura from La Seca, the cradle of the grape, bottled as VT Castilla-León. Farmed naturally and organically and aged six months in barrel and steel, it is fresh, mineral and long, with white fruit and citrus.
Description
Barco del Corneta is the project of Beatriz Herranz in La Seca, Valladolid, on the land of her grandfather in the heartland of Verdejo. The wines are farmed naturally and certified organic, and made with restraint to show the grape in an elegant, unforced style rather than an overtly aromatic one. Loseco is a blend of Verdejo with a little Viura from a distinct terroir on the high Castilian plateau, where hot days and cold nights hold acidity and detail in the fruit. It spends six months split between old barrels and stainless steel deposits, a light touch of wood that adds a subtle savoury, doughy texture and breadth from lees contact without giving the wine an oaky flavour, so freshness and minerality stay in charge. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is restrained, with white fruit and citrus over a clear mineral note and a faint herbal edge. The palate is fresh and finely drawn, with green apple, white peach and lemon carried by taut acidity and a subtle savoury depth to a long, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits fish, shellfish and fresh cheeses.
