Barbazul Rosado is a single-variety Syrah rosé from Huerta de Albalá in Cádiz. Vines on hillsides at 100 to 200 metres, sheltered by the Sierra de Grazalema, ripen slowly to give ripe strawberry, white peach and a peppery lift.
Description
Huerta de Albalá sits in the Vino de la Tierra de Cádiz zone in Andalusia, where the grapes for this rosé come from vineyards beside the winery, planted on hillsides between 100 and 200 metres above sea level. The site has a particular microclimate, sheltered by the Sierra de Grazalema and the Bornos reservoir, which gives hot days and notably cool nights and evenings. That diurnal swing slows ripening and holds the natural acidity in the fruit, which matters for a rosé made in a warm southern climate. The wine is a varietal Syrah, a grape that brings darker berry fruit and a characteristic peppery note to a rosé. The colour is bright pink. The nose leads with ripe strawberry and red cherry, lifted by white peach and a touch of black pepper. The palate is dry and fruit driven, with good freshness from the cool nights and a clean, citrus-edged finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It has the body to match grilled pork, roast chicken and richer fish such as tuna or swordfish, and stands up to mild spice.
