Description
Barbazul Blanco is a varietal Chardonnay from Huerta de Albalá in Cádiz, in Andalusia in the far south of Spain. The vines grow on hillsides between 100 and 200 metres, set between the Sierra de Grazalema and the Bornos reservoir, a position that creates a distinct microclimate. Warm days build ripe fruit while cool nights preserve acidity and slow the ripening, which keeps the wine fresh in a hot region. The grapes are picked by hand and moved quickly to the winery to avoid oxidation and hold the fruit character. This is a young, unoaked style made for early drinking, so the emphasis is on primary fruit and freshness rather than barrel influence. Expect a pale colour with green tints, a nose of green apple, pear and white peach with a floral edge, and a dry, medium-bodied palate with clean acidity and a smooth finish. The cool-night acidity gives it more cut than the warm latitude might suggest. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.
