Bàrbara Forés makes this organic rosé in D.O. Terra Alta from Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah. Grown on hill vineyards combining altitude and orientation, it shows ripe red berries, stone fruit and a herbal lift over a fresh, dry palate.
Description
Bàrbara Forés is a family-run winery in Gandesa, in the inland Catalan appellation of D.O. Terra Alta, with roots in the late nineteenth century and now run by Carmen Ferrer and Manuel Sanmartín. Its 22 hectares of vineyard let the estate combine altitude and orientation across slopes and flatter ground, balancing sun and shade. This rosé blends Garnacha, the region's signature grape, with Cariñena and Syrah. Farming is organic, using natural products and organic manure. The high inland sites of Terra Alta give warm days and cooler nights, a diurnal range that ripens the fruit while holding acidity, and the limestone-influenced soils lend freshness. The grapes are pressed and fermented cool in stainless steel in a young, unoaked style that protects the primary fruit. The wine shows a bright pink. The nose offers ripe red berries and cherry with a touch of white peach and a Mediterranean herbal lift. The palate is dry and fresh, generous in fruit but balanced by clean acidity through a lightly citric finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It partners grilled pork, poultry, salads and white fish.
