A polished aged Haitian rum from Barbancourt, distilled from fresh cane juice, matured fifteen years and finished in cognac casks, soft with dried fruit, vanilla, oak and a peppery, lightly cane-touched finish at 43%.
Description
Barbancourt Rhum Vieux Reserve du Domaine is the refined face of Haitian cane spirit. Where village clairin is raw, wild-fermented and usually unaged, Barbancourt works in a more elegant, French-influenced idiom: distilled from fresh sugar cane juice, taken to a cleaner column-still spirit and then matured at length, here fifteen years, with a finish in cognac casks that gives the house its signature smoothness.
That long ageing and cognac influence shape a soft, melted profile of dried fruit, vanilla, caramel and oak, closing dry, peppery and spice-led, with a subtle cane-juice lift underneath rather than the grassy snap of a young agricole. It carries the gentler, rounded feel many associate with Spanish-style and cognac-finished rums while keeping a Haitian thread of its own. At 43% it is smooth and lightly sweet, balanced and easy to sip neat, a comfortable step up for a palate building toward aged cane-juice rum.
