Barahonda farms in D.O. Yecla in Murcia, where Antonio and Alfredo carry on the family estate. This organic rosé of Monastrell and Syrah is vibrant and dry, showing fresh red berry, peach and a light herbal edge.
Description
Barahonda is a long established estate in D.O. Yecla, in Murcia in southeast Spain, now run by the current generation through Antonio and Alfredo. This rosé blends Monastrell, the region's thick skinned warm climate grape, with Syrah, which adds darker fruit and structure. Yecla's hot dry climate and high vineyards give wide day to night temperature swings, and that diurnal range holds acidity in the ripe fruit, which is essential for a fresh rosé in a warm region. The grapes are pressed with brief skin contact to keep the colour pale and the wine is fermented cool in stainless steel, preserving the primary fruit aromatics and giving a dry unoaked style for early drinking. The farming is organic and the wine is vegan. The colour is a bright pale pink. The nose shows fresh strawberry and red cherry, white peach and a light Mediterranean herb note. The palate is dry and crisp, with lemon and a clean savoury edge carried by fresh acidity to a clean finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with lighter dishes.
