Description
Bar 1802 Engenhos do Norte 970 Wine Cask Finish is a single-cask bottling from the Madeira distillery Engenhos do Norte, whose 970 range is one of the island's signature names. Distilled in 2015 and carrying eight years of age, it has been finished in a wine cask, the kind of red-fruit and tannin influence that can sit well over Madeiran cane spirit.
Bottled at cask strength of 55.3% and from a single cask, this is the more serious, undiluted end of the range. Madeiran rum often shows a grassy, mineral backbone given much of it is made from fresh cane, and the wine finish should layer darker fruit and spice on top. A pour with real grip, best given a drop of water to open.
