A Ballechin of an 18 year old from the Paris house La Maison du Whisky, at 54%. Full and smoky, all peat, dried fruit and a soft oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs above the distillery. The tiny stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, smoky spirit. This is a peated Highland single malt of real weight.

This Ballechin was bottled by the Paris house La Maison du Whisky, an 18 year old, distilled in 2003, from cask 808, bottled at 54%, one of 718 bottles. Ballechin is a heavily peated Highland single malt made at Edradour near Pitlochry. Under Signatory the range has grown to a wide run of sherry and wine cask bottlings.

Distilled slowly from peated malt in the old farm stillhouse, the worm tubs lending weight to the smoke. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, dried fruit and chocolate rising under the oily smoke. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. The peated Ballechin lays heavy smoke over the rich, oily Edradour spirit. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage.

At a hearty 54% it carries real weight. A smoky, fruity richness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath the smoke run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. The finish is long, smoky and gently spiced. This is the oily, smoky malt of Ballechin.
