Description
Badel Visnjevac is a cherry liqueur from Badel 1862, the Croatian house making spirits and liqueurs since 1862. It is made from the juice of the local Maraska cherry, the same Dalmatian sour cherry prized across the eastern Adriatic, which gives the liqueur its deep fruit and colour. It is bottled at 25%, sweet and fruit led in the traditional macerated style.
The nose is sweetish with ripe cherries, the palate intense, sweet and fruity after those ripe Maraska cherries, with vanilla, honey and almond rounding the long finish. Behind the bar it does several jobs at once, lending cherry flavour, a rich colour and a balanced sweetness, which makes it a natural lift in a sour, a whisky cocktail or a sparkling serve where its fruit can carry the glass. It pours neat over ice and sits easily alongside dark chocolate. A genuine sour cherry note for a menu that wants fruit with body rather than syrup.
