Azul y Garanza make this low alcohol Navarra Garnacha at 11.5 percent, fermented and aged in clay amphorae and barrel. Natural and organic, it shows wild blackberry, raspberry and a fresh, herbal lift. Light and savoury, made for early drinking.
Description
Azul y Garanza farm in Navarra, in northern Spain on the edge of the Bardenas Reales, working organically and with a natural, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. Naturaleza Salvaje Tinto is built from Garnacha Tinta picked early to hold freshness, which keeps the alcohol at a light 11.5 percent. The wine spends around six months split between clay amphorae and barrel. The amphora gives gentle, neutral oxygen contact that rounds the texture without adding oak flavour, while the porous clay lets the wine breathe and settle its own way, preserving the bright, lifted fruit. With no additions beyond what the fermentation provides, the character stays raw and direct. Expect a translucent ruby colour and a vibrant nose of wild red and black berries, blackberry and raspberry, with crushed herbs, white pepper and a clean earthy note. The palate is light bodied and juicy, with crunchy red fruit, gentle tannins and fresh acidity that makes it easy to drink. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees, which suits the low alcohol and the fruit. Good with lighter meats and savoury vegetable dishes.
