Camparo makes this Sorì Bric from Dolcetto in the Diano d’Alba appellation of Piedmont, just north of Barolo. Organic and aged in stainless steel, it is a fresh, fruit-forward red with cherry, berries and the grape’s gentle bitter-almond finish.
Description
Sorì Bric is the emblematic wine of Azienda Agricola Camparo, made from Dolcetto in the Diano d'Alba appellation of Piedmont, a hillside zone a short drive from Barolo that gained its own designation in 2010. Dolcetto is one of Piedmont's most planted dark grapes, valued for the deeply coloured, soft, early-drinking reds it gives across the region's hills. The vines are farmed organically on the well-drained calcareous-clay slopes of Diano d'Alba, where good elevation and cool nights preserve the fresh fruit and bright character of the grape. To keep that freshness, the wine is fermented and aged for twelve months in stainless steel rather than oak, a temperature-controlled approach that protects the primary fruit aromas and gives a clean, unwooded style with no vanilla or spice from barrel. The colour is deep ruby with purple tints. The nose is fruit-forward, with cherry and berry fruit, plum and a touch of black pepper. The palate is round and approachable, with soft, gentle tannins, fresh acidity and the characteristic bitter-almond note on the finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with roast pork, poultry, tomato-based pasta or a plate of cheese.
