Description
Avondale is a certified organic estate in WO Paarl, in South Africa's Coastal Region, set beneath one of the world's largest granite outcrops. Jonty's Ducks Pekin White takes its name from the flock of ducks that manager Johnathan Grieve uses to clear snails, slugs and weeds from the vineyard, removing the need for chemical treatments. The blend leads on Chenin Blanc with Roussanne, Semillon and Viognier, grown on decomposed granite soils that drain freely and hold warmth, while cooling Atlantic air off False Bay slows ripening and preserves acidity. Fermentation keeps the fruit clean and dry, and the aromatic Rhone varieties add stone fruit weight and a floral top note to the Chenin base. Expect a pale straw colour, a nose of white peach, pear and honeysuckle, and a palate of apricot and melon carried by fresh acidity. The finish is dry and gently textured. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a standard white glass.
