Description
Avancia Cuvee de O is a single-variety Godello from the D.O. Valdeorras in Galicia, made by Avancia, part of the Jorge Ordóñez group. The fruit comes from old vines grown at around 500 metres above sea level near O Barco de Valdeorras. Valdeorras is a mountainous inland region where Godello reaches its best on slate and granite soils, and the combination of altitude and cool nights preserves acidity and builds a fine mineral tension, while old vines and low yields give concentrated fruit. The harvest is done by hand, with the grapes carried to the winery in small baskets and sorted on arrival. The wine is aged for seven months on its lees in barrel, which is central to its style: gentle oxygen exchange through the wood and regular lees contact, releasing mannoproteins, build a creamy texture, a savoury bready layer and light spice, while keeping Godello's ripe stone fruit and freshness intact. Expect a pale gold colour, a nose of white peach, pear and white flowers, and a broad, textured palate with lemon, melon and a fine almond note on the finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
Its weight and texture suit grilled white fish, scallops and prawns, as well as roast chicken. A hard nutty cheese also complements the lees-built palate.
