Avan Oak is a young Tempranillo from D.O. Ribera del Duero, made by Juan Manuel Burgos in Fuentelcésped. Four months in French oak gives a juicy, expressive red with fresh red and dark fruit, vanilla and a touch of cinnamon.
Description
Avan Oak is the entry red from Bodegas y Viñedos Juan Manuel Burgos in Fuentelcésped, in the Burgos sector of D.O. Ribera del Duero. It is a single varietal Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta del País, planted from cuttings of the grandfather's old vines. Ribera del Duero sits high on the northern Castilian plateau, where a Mediterranean climate takes on a sharp continental character: moderate to low rainfall, dry summers and long, harsh winters. The altitude and the wide swing between hot days and cold nights give Tempranillo here deep colour, concentrated fruit and firm structure while holding fresh acidity. The wine spends four months in French oak, a short ageing that frames the fruit with vanilla and fine spice without dominating it, and lets the tannins settle while keeping the wine young and vibrant. The colour is deep cherry red. The nose is fresh and juicy, with red and dark fruit lifted by a delicate hint of vanilla and cinnamon. The palate enters smoothly, then shows the depth and grip typical of the appellation, with ripe tannins and a lively finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It suits grilled red meats, roast lamb and pork.
