Description
Augustus Chardonnay is made by Augustus Forum in the Penedes appellation, at a cellar in El Vendrell, just three kilometres from the Mediterranean. The vines grow on the Pla del Mar, a coastal plain that once carried the Via Augusta, the Roman road to Rome that gives the estate its name. The sea moderates the warm Catalan climate, tempering the heat with cooling breezes so the fruit ripens fully while keeping its acidity. Farming is organic. After fermentation the wine spends four months in French oak barrels, a short, measured ageing that adds a light vanilla and spice frame and a rounder texture without covering the fruit, while brief lees contact fills out the mid-palate. The colour is bright straw-gold. The nose is ripe and open, with white peach and melon over lemon, pear and white flowers, lifted by a gentle oak spice. The palate is medium bodied and balanced, the warm stone and orchard fruit carried on fresh acidity, with a soft, lightly creamy finish. Serve chilled at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
The ripe fruit and light oak suit white fish and grilled prawns, and roast chicken with roasted vegetables. It also works with squash and other sweet roots, and with milder soft cheeses.
