Auchentoshan 30 Years Old 1992 Cask #1887 (Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers)

Bottled by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers in 2022 as a 30 year old single cask release, drawn from cask 1887 of 1992 vintage Auchentoshan with 188 bottles distributed to the European market at natural strength. Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers is the independent bottling arm of the Morrison family, the original owners of Auchentoshan before Beam Suntory acquisition, giving the bottler direct historical connection to the distillery.

Distilled in 1992 from 100% unpeated malted barley with soft Loch Cochno water from the Kilpatrick Hills, the wash was fermented around 62 hours across Douglas fir and stainless steel washbacks before triple distillation. Auchentoshan runs every drop through three copper pot stills, with the intermediate and spirit stages lifting cut to around 81% ABV. The extra copper contact strips sulphur compounds and heavy fusel oils while concentrating light ester compounds, leaving a delicate spirit base filled into a single ex Bourbon American oak cask.

Three decades in temperate Lowland maturation drove slow, patient oak extraction. Vanillin from lignin breakdown gave vanilla, cis and trans oak lactones built coconut and sweet wood, and char layer interaction released furfural alongside Maillard derived caramelised sugars. Settling at 42.9% reflects steady evaporative loss across thirty years, with tertiary stage ester transformation and slow oxidation through the staves integrating fruit and oak into a polished single cask profile.
