Risky Grapes makes this organic white in the hills of Valencia from Merseguera, Macabeo and Malvasía grown at altitude. Aged on its lees for texture, it is fresh and Mediterranean, with white flowers, ripe stone fruit and a rounded, easy palate.
Description
Atance Cuvée Nº 1 is an organic white from Risky Grapes, made in the hills of inland Valencia from Merseguera, Macabeo and Malvasía. The Sarrión family farm these vineyards at considerable altitude, and the aim is a Mediterranean white that stays approachable and honest rather than heavily worked. Altitude is central to the style here: cool nights preserve acidity and aromatics in a warm region, keeping the wine fresh despite the southern climate. Merseguera and Macabeo give a gentle, floral base, while Malvasía adds perfume and stone fruit. The wine is aged on its lees, with the fine yeast sediment left in contact after fermentation, which adds body, a soft creaminess and a savoury depth while helping protect freshness. The colour is a clean, bright straw yellow, and the nose leads with delicate white flowers over ripe stone fruit and citrus. The palate is rounded and textured from the lees but balanced by acidity, finishing fresh and dry rather than weighty. It is a wine built for easy drinking. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. Good with white fish, roast chicken, salads and lighter shellfish dishes.
