Tierras Atamisque grows this Serbal Pinot Noir high in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, a French project run by John and Chantal Du Monceau. Vinified in stainless steel only, it stays bright and fresh, with red cherry, raspberry and a floral, earthy lift.
Description
Tierras Atamisque sits in Tupungato, in the Uco Valley above Mendoza, where John and Chantal Du Monceau farm at altitude under a high desert sky. The Uco Valley reaches well above 1,000 metres, and that elevation drives a wide diurnal swing: warm Andean sun ripens the fruit while cold nights preserve natural acidity and slow sugar accumulation, so the wine keeps its freshness and red-fruit definition. The stony alluvial soils drain freely and add a savoury edge. This Serbal cuvée is fermented and held in stainless steel with no oak, which keeps the focus on primary fruit and the perfumed side of Pinot Noir rather than barrel spice. The result is a pale to medium ruby red. The nose leads with red cherry and raspberry, rose petal and a dusting of earth and white pepper. The palate is light to medium bodied, with fine soft tannins, crisp acidity and a clean red-fruited finish that reflects the cool nights as much as the warm days. Serve lightly chilled at around 14 to 16 degrees, in a wide bowled glass. It suits roast duck, herbed chicken and mushroom dishes.
