Description
Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris is an organic, barrel-fermented white made in Martinborough, at the southern tip of New Zealand's North Island. The Paton family founded the estate in 1980, drawn by the geological and climatic likeness of this district to Burgundy, and the winery is known for concentrated, structured wines. Martinborough's cool maritime climate and free-draining river gravels give a wide diurnal range, ripening the Pinot Gris to a fuller stone-fruit expression while retaining acidity. Fermentation in barrel, rather than steel, gives a richer, rounder wine, with lees contact and gentle oxygen exchange through the wood adding weight and a creamy texture. The colour is pale gold, occasionally with the faint copper tint the grape can show. The nose is ripe and generous, with white peach, pear and apricot over honey, orchard blossom and a touch of ginger spice. The palate is broad and textured, the ripe fruit balanced by a fresh line of acidity and a dry, savoury finish that keeps it from feeling heavy. This is a food-friendly, gastronomic style of Pinot Gris. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
A natural match for roast pork with apple, where the ripe fruit and honeyed weight meet the sweetness of the meat. It also pairs with roast chicken, richer white fish and baked squash, and the texture stands up to mild spice and creamy sauces.
