A Marie-Galante agricole from Bielle, bottled by Asta Morris at 43%, fresh sugarcane with pear and a vegetal, earthy core turning nutty and spicy, an honest, slightly disconcerting cane juice rum with a medicinal twist.
Description
Belgian independent bottler Asta Morris selected this Bielle, The Tipsy Turtle, from the Marie-Galante distillery known for its characterful agricole. Drawn from fresh sugar cane juice and bottled at an accessible 43%, it shows a different face from the usual Bielle profile.
Distilled on the column still, it leans green and earthy. The nose offers fresh sugarcane, a vegetal edge and a note of pear, while the palate stays cane-forward and vegetal with an earthy character. The finish turns nutty and spicy with baking spices and a touch of oak, a vegetal then medicinal side giving it an intriguing, slightly disconcerting quality and a fresh lift to close. This is an honest, individual bottling rather than a polished crowd-pleaser, a cane juice rum with personality that rewards drinkers curious about the quieter, more idiosyncratic corners of Marie-Galante agricole.
