Description
Aseginolaza & Leunda is the project of Jon Aseginolaza and Pedro Leunda, two biologists who came to Navarra in northern Spain to revive old Garnacha vines. Navarra has a long history of rosado, and this wine is made from Garnacha Roja, the pink-skinned mutation of the grape, farmed under respectful agriculture. The region sits between the cooler Atlantic influence to the north and the warmer Ebro valley to the south, and the old vines used here give low yields of concentrated, characterful fruit. The wine is made young, by gentle pressing of the pale-skinned Garnacha Roja and a cool fermentation in stainless steel with no oak, to keep the fruit primary, the colour pale and the wine fresh and direct. Expect a luminous pale pink and a nose of ripe strawberry and raspberry with white peach, citrus peel and white flowers over a light herbal lift. The palate is dry, light and lively, with a clean, fresh finish and a gentle saline edge. This is rosado in its open, easy-drinking form, built for early drinking and the table. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
