Description
Asaka Yamazakura New Born Cask #17002 was distilled and bottled in 2017 at Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, making it part of the second wave of New Born single-cask releases from the young Fukushima craft site. This particular cask is notable for its maturation in mizunara, Japanese oak that is prized for the slow-building sandalwood, incense and coconut notes it imparts.
At such a young age, the mizunara's contribution is still forming rather than fully developed, but it already sets this cask apart from the Ex-Bourbon-matured siblings in the series. Bottled at 62.7% ABV, the spirit is lively and fruit-forward in the Asaka house style, with the incense and spice of the Japanese oak beginning to thread through. Released for the domestic Japanese market.
