Description
Asaka Yamazakura New Born Cask #6226 is a single-cask, cask-strength bottling from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture. Like its New Born siblings, it was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2017 to document the character of the fledgling distillery's spirit before reaching legal whisky age, making it a genuine snapshot of Asaka's early production.
The Ex-Bourbon cask has had only months to interact with the spirit, so the dominant character is the new make itself rather than the wood. At 63.3%, the spirit shows the clean, fruit-forward and lively profile that is typical of Asaka's pot-still distillate. This bottling was released for the domestic Japanese market and is primarily of interest to those tracing the distillery's development from its 2016 opening.
