AS Liviko Vana Tallinn Estonian Liqueur

Vana Tallinn is a long-established Estonian product from AS Liviko, built on a rum base but spiced and sweetened into a liqueur rather than presented as a straight rum. It is bottled at 40%, and its identity sits much closer to a flavoured digestif than to a spirit-forward sipping rum.

The aromatics are dominated by baking spices, cumin and nutmeg, and the palate follows sweet and spice-laden over a syrupy, honeyed body with cumin carrying into the finish. Honesty is essential here, this is a thick, sugared, herbal-spiced liqueur, and drinkers expecting a dry aged rum will not find one. Taken for what it is, it has a warming, stomach-settling quality and an unusual cumin-and-rum signature that some find genuinely appealing. It works best as a sweet after-dinner pour, over ice or in coffee, rather than as a rum to study neat.
