Description
Arta is an extra anejo tequila distilled from Blue Weber agave and aged a full five years, which places it well beyond the three year minimum for the class. Three of those years pass in American white oak, after which the spirit is split for two more years across French Cognac casks and Spanish sherry casks before being married back together, leaving an amber colour shot with copper tones.
The long maturation makes this a barrel led tequila, with cooked agave receding behind layers of light chocolate, caramel, cinnamon and mild butter. There is cherry and dried fruit from the wine casks, vanilla and toasted nut from the American oak, and a thread of leather and coffee through a silky, multilayered finish. Bottled at 40 percent, it drinks closer to an aged spirit than to a fresh agave distillate.
