Description
The Sherry Single Cask series at Arran ran through the late 2000s as one of the distillery's early single cask programmes, predating the more formalised Limited Edition Single Cask Malt structure. The series focused specifically on Oloroso seasoned cask single bottlings drawn from the 1998 vintage at ten to eleven years old, capturing the spirit at the developing sherry cask integration point. This release uses cask 724 bottled in 2009.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1998 and matured ten years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2009 at the natural cask strength of 51.3% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 223 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single Oloroso cask at ten years.
Ten years of Oloroso cask maturation produces measured sherry compound integration, with sotolon, furfural and the polyphenol fraction from the original wine ageing developing alongside the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 1998 distillation year. The cask sits at the developing phase of integration where both spirit and cask contributions remain in clear balance, with the dark sherry layer not yet at the depth of fifteen year and older Oloroso single casks.
