Description
Belgium has been a recurring partner in the Arran Private Cask programme, with multiple Belgian market specific bottlings appearing in the Whiskybase catalogue across the years. This 2006 vintage 9 Year Old draws on cask 2006/038, a relatively early numbered cask in the 2006 production year filled at Lochranza in the early part of the year. The 215 bottle outturn reflects the natural yield of the single cask at the nine year point.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2006 and matured nine years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask. Bottled in 2016 at 53.6% without chill filtration and without added colour.
Nine years of ex Bourbon maturation produces a balanced cask and spirit layering, with the cask integration beyond the very young phase but not yet at the deeper extraction characteristic of older maturations. The American oak supplies the vanillin and whisky lactone framework, with the Arran citric and fresh fruit signature retaining its dominant role. The 53.6% bottling preserves the textural fullness of the unfiltered spirit.
